It must be in the DNA! I agree there are situations where taking photographs is not appropriate and I would find it disrespectful to do so under those circumstances. So in actuality, the answer to the question is, “Yes, there are things I would not take a photo of.” You just provided an excellent example Maggie!

I also enjoy taking lots of pictures, and of most anything, especially urban areas. I enjoy the grittiness of the buildings, and the unique, surprises that city life has in store. The only subjects I will not take pictures of are the Amish, and Amish life. They themselves do not believe in photos, and out of respect for their culture, I refrain from photographing them. We were just in Lancaster, PA last Saturday, and I rarely used my camera, preferring just to enjoy the ambiance that is created in a land without electricity, etc. Simple lifestyle, a nice reminder, and quite refreshing. The pictures will remain in my mind as a remembrance.

Yeah, the fire eater dude is kinda cute! The story with the name tag on the shoe is that Chap Petersen didn’t realize it was no longer on his jacket . . . not until I showed him the photo on my camera, anyway. ^_^

having the camera with you at all times is KEY!! I always see awesome shots i want to take – when i do not have my camera. You are so smart to take it with you everywhere. The shoes picture CRACKED ME UP! that one actually compels me to ask “what’s the story here?” and that is yet another reason that the vision medium of photography is so vital to engaging people in the story!!

ooh I LOVE the critters!!! And the privacy of not having neighbors peer into your house because the windows are lined up and less than 2 feet apart like most new construction around here. If I didn’t already live in my old neighborhood with yards bigger than the houses (and awesome neighbors, to the point of installing a gate in our fences) i would be sighing over this house more than i already am!!

I remember “The Big Deck!” He originally sent that out YEARS ago. That video is what started the conversation that ended up getting me invited to Sadie’s Eleven for the very first time! It’s so funny you thought of that Sherry.
